Guest Melissa L Posted April 19, 2019 at 03:15 PM Report Share Posted April 19, 2019 at 03:15 PM Our organization's nominating committee chose the nominees for slating and submitted report to our board. The membership was made aware of who the nominating committee chose and who was to be slated. We are currently during the "members can run from the floor" period and ballot is due to go to membership 6/1. Today, the BOD was made aware that a nominee cannot fulfill responsibilities and has withdrawn from the process. My question is do we have the nominating committee reconvene to replace name on ballot? Or do we leave as vacant and then follow by-laws once voting has been completed? Rob Elsman Posted April 19, 2019 at 03:43 PM Report Share Posted April 19, 2019 at 03:43 PM If it is practical to do so, the Nominating Committee should meet and propose to the electing body another candidate. If it is not practical for the Nominating Committee to meet again, the election can proceed without it having met and proposed another candidate. Richard Brown Posted April 19, 2019 at 04:51 PM Report Share Posted April 19, 2019 at 04:51 PM I agree with Reelsman. This what RONR says about it at the top of page 435: A nominating committee is automatically discharged when its report is formally presented to the assembly, although if one of the nominees withdraws before the election, the committee is revived and should meet immediately to agree upon another nomination if there is time. That was what my reply was to the BOD, but I had several questioning me.....thought I was missing something!
