Guest Joe Hewes Posted March 4, 2020 at 08:38 PM Report Share Posted March 4, 2020 at 08:38 PM Hello, Where in RROO does it explicitly state the method of calculating two thirds vote? I understand from several sources that the math should be divide the number of votes by three and multiply by two (as opposed to multiplying by .66), but I cannot find this stated in the rule book. Any insights appreciated.
George Mervosh Posted March 4, 2020 at 08:47 PM Report Share Posted March 4, 2020 at 08:47 PM (edited) See this https://www.robertsrules.com/faq.html#5 and page 401 in RONR (11th ed.). The simplest way to calculate it is, there must be at least twice as many votes in the affirmative as there are in the negative. Suppose 300 votes are cast. Two-thirds of 300 is 200, but 300 × .66 is only 198.
Joe Hewes Posted March 4, 2020 at 09:49 PM Report Share Posted March 4, 2020 at 09:49 PM Thanks George, I've found those items. I guess I was looking for something in the book that I can cite when spelling out the math.
