Guest Chuck O Posted May 24, 2021 at 02:25 PM Report Share Posted May 24, 2021 at 02:25 PM Can a board take another vote on something that was already voted on ? Thank you
Atul Kapur Posted May 24, 2021 at 02:32 PM Report Share Posted May 24, 2021 at 02:32 PM Generally, no, but you need to give a few more details on the situation to get a complete answer. For example, it is appropriate for the board to verify the results of a vote by using a more conclusive method. A Voice vote can be verified by a counted vote, for example. If the board is changing its mind about how it decided on a question, that can be done by use of the motion to reconsider a vote.
Alicia Percell, PRP Posted May 28, 2021 at 06:30 AM Report Share Posted May 28, 2021 at 06:30 AM What is the general nature of the motion? Did the motion pass or fail the first time? Is the second vote during the same session as the first vote, or is it at a different session, or is it at a different meeting within the same session? These factors impact the answer. Rather than us trying to run through all the possible permutations, more detailed information is needed.
Rob Elsman Posted May 28, 2021 at 04:58 PM Report Share Posted May 28, 2021 at 04:58 PM Maybe. 🙂 1. If we're talking about a main motion that was rejected (directly or indirectly), it can be renewed at any later session. See RONR (12th ed.) 38:1-3; 2. If we're talking about a main motion that was adopted, the proper incidental main motion to bring the main motion before the executive board a second time is Rescind or Amend Something Previously Adopted. There are some limitations on the making of this motion. See RONR (12th ed.) 35-1-13.
