Guest Word Curmudgeon Posted May 28, 2021 at 02:40 PM Report Share Posted May 28, 2021 at 02:40 PM Does the reading of a financial report of previously approved - by statute or committee vote - expenses and income, require a vote to accept the report, when there is no further financial activity to be considered, and when no questions or other motions have been raised? Guest Word Curmudgeon Posted May 28, 2021 at 03:48 PM Report Share Posted May 28, 2021 at 03:48 PM Likewise, is it necessary to vote on accepting the Minutes of a former meeting, if all matters are correctly reported and no member has a question or comment?!? Guest Word Curmudgeon Posted May 28, 2021 at 03:52 PM Report Share Posted May 28, 2021 at 03:52 PM Thank You, Joshua! Can you cite chapter & verse that substantiates your proclamation? There are curmudgeons worse than me who would INSIST that votes be taken!
Joshua Katz Posted May 28, 2021 at 03:53 PM Report Share Posted May 28, 2021 at 03:53 PM Well, not to vote, no. For the treasurer's report, no action should be taken. As for the minutes, they will need to be approved, but it will not require a vote. Rather, when there are no further corrections, the chair will say "there being no further corrections, the minutes are approved." This is true even if there were issues, since they will be resolved before the minutes are approved, either by voting on amendments or by unanimous consent. No vote should actually be taken on approving the minutes. Votes are taken only on corrections to the minutes. If there are no corrections or once all corrections have been made, the chair simply declares that the minutes are approved. Edited to add: see sections 41:9–41:12 for approval of the minutes.
