Guest Sandra l Posted July 12, 2021 at 05:43 PM Report Share Posted July 12, 2021 at 05:43 PM I am a member of a 8 person board, I’m not one of the officers. I asked our President if I could review the contract of the credit card machine our club just purchased, she refused. I thought all officers and members have access to any financial information of our club upon request. After all, it is the member’s money. To gain access, would this need to be written in the bylaws? Rob Elsman Posted July 12, 2021 at 07:54 PM Report Share Posted July 12, 2021 at 07:54 PM A main motion ordering the custodian of the contract to make it available for inspection by all the board members should do the trick. I guess I am puzzled why the president would not handle this informally. What's so secret about a credit card machine? 🙃

RONR does not have a rule providing that "all officers and members have access to any financial information of our club upon request." The board or the club's membership may adopt rules on this matter if it wishes. In the alternative, it can adopt motions handling such matters on a case by case basis. A rule of the sort described would not have to be in the bylaws (although it could be). A standing rule would be sufficient.
