Guest Andrew French Posted November 10, 2023 at 03:23 PM Report Share Posted November 10, 2023 at 03:23 PM I was in a meeting where the board voted to deny a motion. Later in the meeting a couple board members had second thoughts and brought the earlier motion up again to be reconsidered. The board allowed the original motion to be reconsidered and it ended up being passed. Is this appropriate?
Rob Elsman Posted November 10, 2023 at 03:38 PM Report Share Posted November 10, 2023 at 03:38 PM Since the main motion was rejected, the only members who were qualified to make the motion, Reconsider, were members who had voted to reject the main motion. Assuming that the maker had, indeed, voted to reject the main motion, the motion, Reconsider, was in order. Assuming further that the motion, Reconsider, was adopted, the main motion would, indeed, be brought before the assembly a second time and could be adopted upon reconsideration, as you say it was.
