Guest Clarence W. Davis Posted October 1, 2010 at 12:39 PM Report Share Posted October 1, 2010 at 12:39 PM Our Christian Education Ministry presented a recommendation to the church body for action/approval. The moderator asked for a motion on the recommendation. Another member moved that the Christian Education Recommendation be rejected. There was, then, a second to the motion to not accept the original recommendation. My Question: Is it proper/permissible for a person to make a motion rejecting the recommendation before the recommendation is put forth as a vote? George Mervosh Posted October 1, 2010 at 12:44 PM Report Share Posted October 1, 2010 at 12:44 PM Typically the reporting member of the committee makes the motion to adopt the recommendation unless he's not a member of the higher body.In this case the moderator solicited a motion to adopt the recommendation, but instead someone made a motion to reject it. It's not a fatal flaw, it's just bad form. Motions to "not" do things shouldn't be entertained because of improper form, but In your case, if they adopted the motion to not accept the recommendation, it's a done deal.
