Guest beth Posted January 28, 2011 at 06:56 PM Report Share Posted January 28, 2011 at 06:56 PM Our club has a nominating comm. of 5. They nominated one of the member of this comm. to an open position on the board It was a 3/2 vote as she voted for herself. Her name was then presented to the board and the chair of the nomination comm. told the board that she had voted for herself. The board then took a vote and voted no to letting her take the open position. The chair also told the board that the lady that wanted the position campaigned to get the position. My question then is can you vote for yourself and is there anything wrong with being vocal that you want the position? If you should not vote for yourself should the chair have said so in the beginning???

David A Foulkes Posted January 28, 2011 at 07:12 PM Report Share Posted January 28, 2011 at 07:12 PM Our club has a nominating comm. of 5. They nominated one of the member of this comm. to an open position on the boardSo far so good. It was a 3/2 vote as she voted for herself. Good for her.Her name was then presented to the board and the chair of the nomination comm. told the board that she had voted for herself. Pointless blather from the nom comm chair. What a cry baby. The board then took a vote and voted no to letting her take the open position. Wait.... so the Board was actually holding the election at this point? Or did they vote to take her name off of the ballot prior to the election? The chair also told the board that the lady that wanted the position campaigned to get the position.Boy, this guy just needs a steaming hot cup of shut--up. My question then is can you vote for yourselfWho do you think Obama voted for? and is there anything wrong with being vocal that you want the position? Better than keeping it a secret and no one knowing. You get fewer votes that way.If you should not vote for yourself should the chair have said so in the beginning???Well, we now know this question does not need to be asked. If you should not vote for yourself should the chair have said so in the beginning???There's nothing wrong with what the member of the nominating committee did. It's unclear whether the board has done something wrong. Was the board conducting the election or is the election to be conducted by the general membership? If the latter, the board has no business removing a nominee for any reason. The board does not have the authority to interfere with an election by the general membership.
