  1. Joshua, That was the wording. Also assessments are not in our bylaws
  2. Thank you both for responding. The motion was to pay an outstanding balance by donating $1500 per year for 2 years. This will be done by assessing each member $50 for 2 years. It was done in 1 because of new members being assessed the fee as well. So if the balance is met and no one decides to amend the motion, how can the excess funds be used?
  3. Good Afternoon Everyone! Can someone help me out regarding a previous motion made? The example is: There was a motion to pay for something in 2 years by an assessment. We paid for it after 1 year. We are now having conflicts on 2 years versus the goal met. Some feel we should continue to pay because it hasn't been 2 years and others feel we met the goal despite it not being 2 years and should stop paying. Who is correct and what are our options to stop payment? Thank you!
  4. Thank you! This is helpful. I was thinking once adopted it needs to be read at each meeting
  5. Hello, I have a couple of questions about standing rules. I understand they are administrative details. 1) Where would they be added on the agenda and 2) Do they have to be read at every meeting?
  6. Thank you Guest Zev! I appreciate your responses. They were also helpful. We will definitely give notice to the members.
  7. Hi Gary! Thank you for responding! I actually have seen it previously for bylaw amendments. There is no ill intent by suggesting the consent calendar. We do believe some of the items won't be debated, questioned, etc. They can also be removed from the consent calendar if requested. We will explain that to the membership as well. I read something that needed board approval so I was also seeking clarity if that was executive board or membership. In my case it's a non profit organization.
  8. Thank you Atul! That was helpful. Another question, does there need to be special wording to the membership to present a consent calendar. A motion?
  9. Help please! I suggested using the consent calendar on some bylaw amendments that bylaw committee received. Can someone please walk me through how to move forward with this? Page numbers would be great also. I have a few questions. This is not addressed in our current bylaws. I do understand that items can be removed by any member. Also that it has to be explained to the membership before voting. 1) Does this have to be approved by the executive board first for approval and then the membership or just presented to the membership before voting? 2) If agreed to, does this mean no vote is required or do we still vote but just one vote for all? 3) Can we vote on the remaining amendments (not on consent calendar) by secret ballot if this is not addressed in the bylaws? Thank you so much for your help and time!
  10. Thank you Weldon for the additional insight! I appreciate the information. This was all very helpful!!!
  11. Thank you so much George! So what happens if they do not receive a majority vote? Could the previous officer remain in office?
  12. Hello All, I have a few questions about election by acclamation. I hope someone can help me or direct me to the correct answers in RONR. 1) If the current bylaws do not address running unopposed, is acclamation automate? 2) If the bylaws mention to vote by ballot, does the body still vote even though only one person is on the ballot? 3)If yes to #2, then does the candidate have to still receive majority vote?
