general meeting agenda

Our bylaws require that topics for discussion at the general meeting be submitted to the board for approval before they are added to the agenda. If the board refuses to add an item to the agenda that was requested, what recourse do the members have?

Also, it is necessary to know what "type" of general meeting it is before we know which of Robert's Rules of Order to use to force discussion of agenda items that were not approved by the board?

RONR doesn't require that items of business at Membership meetings must first be vetted by the Board. Since your bylaws (presumably) say this is the case it will be up to you all to work out the details. See RONR pp. 570-573 for some principles to help you all with that.

Get new board members (see FAQ #20). Then amend your bylaws to remove your board's veto power at general meetings.

Why "Get new board members"?.......the society created the rule, presumably for a reason. There's no allegation the board is acting outside of their authority. Their action might, in fact, make sense in this case.

Agreed. But DebA asked what recourse the members had and that's what I came up with.
