Gary Novosielski Posted March 4, 2011 at 10:25 PM Report Share Posted March 4, 2011 at 10:25 PM Is there any rule that exsist that indicataes an Executive Board must only contain an odd number of members? No.It's a fairly common misconception, though. People who believe this, if asked, usually say something vague about preventing tie votes, but of course this is nonsense. Tie votes can occur regardless of how many members are on the board, if someone is absent or abstains. And what's wrong with tie votes anyway? They're nothing special; they're simply the largest vote you can get without achieving a majority. Even with an odd number of votes, there will always be a largest losing number. So, if there's a tie vote, the motion fails, just like any other result that's less than a majority. No problem; move on.
