eileenqb Posted April 23, 2011 at 04:43 PM Report Share Posted April 23, 2011 at 04:43 PM Pastor and I had a argument and things got ugly. He told not never to go back to church. I waited for the Board to call a meeting to discuss the issue...never happened. He has since removed me from my post. Do I have any options? Do I have any options? The pastor has no authority to order you not to return to the church or to remove you from your post unless the Bylaws state otherwise. Just ignore anything the pastor didn't have the authority to do, and if it becomes an issue at a meeting, raise a Point of Order and/or Appeal if necessary. jstackpo Posted April 23, 2011 at 05:45 PM Report Share Posted April 23, 2011 at 05:45 PM "No[t] never..." "Well, hardly ever..." check here....How did you get "your post"? Who, or what body, put you in it?
hmtcastle Posted April 23, 2011 at 06:35 PM Report Share Posted April 23, 2011 at 06:35 PM Just ignore anything the pastor didn't have the authority to do . . . On the other hand, you've got to hand it to a pastor who tells a parishioner never to go back to church.
Gerry4000 Posted April 23, 2011 at 06:45 PM Report Share Posted April 23, 2011 at 06:45 PM Rules differ greatly when it comes to places (or organizations) of faith and worship. In many such entities (including mine), the pastor can do (or say) almost anything without recourse to anything or anyone. J. J. Just ignore anything the pastor didn't have the authority to do, and if it becomes an issue at a meeting, raise a Point of Order and/or Appeal if necessary.Nothing in RONR would grant that power, but the rules of the church may. My pastor can decline to give me sacraments, which, after a while, will cause me to lose membership (though they will still take my check).
