David A Foulkes Posted July 7, 2011 at 07:51 PM Report Share Posted July 7, 2011 at 07:51 PM After the minutes have been approved, they may be modified by adoption of a motion to Amend Something Previously Adopted. If I'm not mistaken, this motion requires a 2/3 vote without notice, a majority vote with notice, or a majority of the entire membership. (I'm missing my book today, so others will follow with gorier details, I'm sure).
Tim Wynn Posted July 7, 2011 at 08:03 PM Report Share Posted July 7, 2011 at 08:03 PM Is it appropriate to make a change to the minutes after the minutes have been approved for the record? The minutes are the record of what happened at the meeting. If that record is not accurate, it's certainly appropriate to rectify it. Mr. Foulkes' ruminations about the vote requirement are correct.
Rev Ed Posted July 7, 2011 at 09:12 PM Report Share Posted July 7, 2011 at 09:12 PM I concur, if the Minutes are not accurate, then they should be amended. However, in no way should the Minutes be changed if they are accurate as they are a formal record of what was decided at a meeting.
Kim Goldsworthy Posted July 8, 2011 at 04:45 PM Report Share Posted July 8, 2011 at 04:45 PM Is it appropriate to make a change to the minutes after the minutes have been approved for the record? It is permissible.Extreme example:Minutes approved in 1876 can be amended in 2011, if an error is found, or if the motion "Rescind and Expunge" is adopted. But you don't change policy, change rules, change facts, etc., by amending the minutes. It doesn't work that way.
