Recorded Minutes

I suppose so, but it would be far better if the Board member asked the assembly (Board) for permission (majority vote) to listen, and gave his/her reasons why. The Secretary is within his rights to say "No" to the individual Board member.

The recording is NOT the official minutes, as you realize. RONR, p. 476

We record all of our minutes from the Board meetings and then the Secretary makes the minutes from it. Can any Board member request a copy of the tape of those minutes before the Secretary erases them?

Thanks.

Not to brazenly dispute Mr. Novosielski for no good reason, but I think the answer to Guest_Rita's actual question is two-fold: 1) Sure, any Board member can request a copy of the tape (and the Secretary can just say no), and 2) RONR does not speak to this issue. Of course, if Rose Mary Woods is the Secretary, it's probably a moot point anyway by now.

Of course, the assembly could restrict the rights of any member with regards to recording the meeting. As such, the Board could pass a special rule requiring the Secretary to keep the recordings for a specific timeframe and to make them avaialble "upon reasonable notice" while specifying that the members cannot abuse the right.
