Guest dkaras Posted June 23, 2012 at 07:45 PM Report Share Posted June 23, 2012 at 07:45 PM As president of an organization, I use Robert's quite a bit. Our bylaws read that RONR shall apply to all meetings and business transactions not otherwise specified in the Bylaws. I had a member contact me with a request that I turned down on the grounds that it was beyond my authority. Thihs person quoted a citation in RONR that I'd never heard and still haven't 'found. This is the quote: Per Roberts Rules of Order: The president should rule on any procedure that does not follow correct procedures.Has anyone ever heard of this? Thanks! jstackpo Posted June 23, 2012 at 08:09 PM Report Share Posted June 23, 2012 at 08:09 PM Well... the president is supposed to rule on motions and other parliamentary procedures that appear to be out of order to him at the time -- subject, as ever, to appeal. But this in only in meetings. Ask your friend for chapter & verse of HIS citation. The burden of proof is on him, not you.The quote is not exact but comes close to p. 450 #6 & #8, in combination. Gary Novosielski Posted June 24, 2012 at 09:24 AM Report Share Posted June 24, 2012 at 09:24 AM It doesn't sound like this took place in a meeting, so you wouldn't be "ruling" on anything. The member is improperly applying that rule.
