g40 Posted September 7, 2012 at 02:29 AM Report Share Posted September 7, 2012 at 02:29 AM A motion is made by a member of the body that is meeting. Although the Chair can make motions in small boards and committees of fewer than about a dozen, it is probably better if board members make motions. When/if a board members wants something done, that board member makes the motion to do whatever that might be.

Gary Novosielski Posted September 9, 2012 at 04:20 AM Report Share Posted September 9, 2012 at 04:20 AM Does a motion have to be approved by the president before the board meeting? No, that would be ridiculous. Motions can't even occur before the meeting.

sMargaret Posted September 9, 2012 at 02:58 PM Report Share Posted September 9, 2012 at 02:58 PM Additionally, the chair is not the person who approves items for the agenda, if that is what is being asked. That would be up to a majority vote of the members, unless your bylaws are very peculiar.
