Guest Edgar Posted November 8, 2012 at 06:30 PM Report Share Posted November 8, 2012 at 06:30 PM There is no proper method. The meeting should be held as scheduled. That's what makes it "regular".
jstackpo Posted November 8, 2012 at 06:52 PM Report Share Posted November 8, 2012 at 06:52 PM If your organization has a means of canceling meetings, it should be in your bylaws.
Chris Harrison Posted November 8, 2012 at 06:55 PM Report Share Posted November 8, 2012 at 06:55 PM There is no proper method. The meeting should be held as scheduled. That's what makes it "regular"....However, after the meeting is called to order a motion can be adopted to set up an Adjourned Meeting (RONR pp. 242-247) for a time that is more to the members' liking. Gary Novosielski Posted November 8, 2012 at 07:00 PM Report Share Posted November 8, 2012 at 07:00 PM Well, technically, it can be done.If the meeting date/time was set by a motion of the body, then it can be canceled by a motion of the body, using the motion to Amend Something Previously Adopted. If the regular meeting schedule is set in the bylaws, then a bylaws amendment is necessary to change it.But if we're assuming that the question really is, how can we cancel the next upcoming meeting (i.e., there is no prior meeting at which to adopt a motion), that's when the answer is: You can't. Or in other words, technically you can, but you have to actually meet to do so.
