William Kennedy Posted January 13, 2015 at 02:23 PM Report Share Posted January 13, 2015 at 02:23 PM A few members of our Board have regularly been attending the meetings of a standing committee. They have not been appointed to the committee and there is no provision in the bylaw entitling them to attend. Some members of the standing committee feel this is an unwelcome intrusion which inhibits deliberations. How can this be remedied in accordance with the Rules? How can this be remedied in accordance with the Rules? The standing committee can order them to leave, by majority vote, if it wishes. Only members of the committee have a right to be present, unless the organization's rules provide otherwise or the committee's parent assembly orders otherwise. g40 Posted January 13, 2015 at 08:16 PM Report Share Posted January 13, 2015 at 08:16 PM Why not schedule a meeting of the committee and only tell/notify the members of the committee where and when? Nobody else (probably) will come because those not invited will not know about it.
Edgar Guest Posted January 13, 2015 at 08:30 PM Report Share Posted January 13, 2015 at 08:30 PM Why not schedule a meeting of the committee and only tell/notify the members of the committee where and when? The committee should not have to "hide" from board members. Nor should they have to alter their regular meeting place and time. The committee could announce at the outset that it will be meeting in executive session. It doesn't have to do this in order to exclude non-members but the phrase has a certain power.
