Guest Karen Hansen Posted March 18, 2015 at 08:38 AM Report Share Posted March 18, 2015 at 08:38 AM Our Bylaws allow the current President of our organization to appoint a replacement for an elected 3 year term committee member. Our presidents only hold office for one year, so the appointment is good for that year only. How do we handle the rest of the committee members term if she resigned in her first year? jstackpo Posted March 18, 2015 at 08:44 AM Report Share Posted March 18, 2015 at 08:44 AM Where does the second half of your second sentence ("..so the appointment...") come from? It is not an RONR rule.
Guest Karen Hansen Posted March 18, 2015 at 09:00 AM Report Share Posted March 18, 2015 at 09:00 AM the appointment term is also from our bylaws- The president shall fill the vacancy by appointment and such newly appointed member shall serve through the following convention- ( which ends the presidents term)

This has nothing to do with the president's term, but rather that appointments last only until the next convention. Presumably, if the convention is where people get elected, the unexpired remainder of that term would then be up for election at that time. Check first, though, to make sure the bylaws don't already say that. I suspect they do, but that the provision may be in another part of the bylaws.
