Edgar Guest Posted April 11, 2015 at 01:01 PM Report Share Posted April 11, 2015 at 01:01 PM What positions do you need to have on a parent teacher group board? We are in the process of voting in a new board, if we have a president & a secretary is that enough? or do you need to have a vice-president, treasurer & parliamentarian? Unless your bylaws require more, the only specific positions a board will need is a presiding officer (usually called the chairman, chairwoman, or chair) and a secretary (usually called the secretary). It would be a good idea to also have a vice-chair. It's unlikely that your board would need a treasurer (though your association might). As Mr. Stackpole advised, check your bylaws. If, for example, they call for a nine-member board, you'll need nine members. But note that some positions might be "automatically" filled ex officio. That is, the president of your association might be, ex officio, the chair of your board. Similarly with your organization's secretary.
