in closed session can a resolution be voted on or does it have to be in open session

last night we had an issue and the debate was regarding if the resolution is required to be read in the open session. This was regarding a legal issue and to be on the safe side because we did not know what to do we read it in the open session but with no debating.

I agree, in closed meeting would be the better fit because debating, answering questions would be more free.

can you vote on a resolution in closed session (in-caucus) or does the resolution have to be read and voted in open session.

I agree with the other answers, assuming your organization is not a public body subject to open meetings (sunshine) laws.  If you are, then you need to find out what the law says about taking votes in executive session.
