You can do anything in a "closed session" (what RONR calls meeting in executive session) that you can do in a so-called "open" session. All that meeting in executive session does is impose confidentiality on the business conducted therein.

No rule in RONR would prohibit an assembly from voting on a resolution in closed session.

last night we had an issue and the debate was regarding if the resolution is required to be read in the open session. This was regarding a legal issue and to be on the safe side because we did not know what to do we read it in the open session but with no debating.

I agree, in closed meeting would be the better fit because debating, answering questions would be more free.

I agree with the other answers, assuming your organization is not a public body subject to open meetings (sunshine) laws.  If you are, then you need to find out what the law says about taking votes in executive session.
