Guest Linda J Posted April 20, 2015 at 05:44 PM Report Share Posted April 20, 2015 at 05:44 PM President called in saying that he would be 5 min. late to board meeting. A VP started meeting without President. President was surprised. What is the protocol when a President is delayed?
Edgar Guest Posted April 20, 2015 at 05:47 PM Report Share Posted April 20, 2015 at 05:47 PM In the absence of the president, the vice-president presides. In the absence of both officers, a president pro tem is selected. In this instance I think the board could have waited five minutes but it certainly wasn't required to do so. What if the five minutes turned into fifteen minutes? Half an hour? And the vice-president can probably use the practice.
Gary Novosielski Posted April 20, 2015 at 05:57 PM Report Share Posted April 20, 2015 at 05:57 PM If a quorum is present, and the designated time has arrived, the VP was correct in starting the meeting.
Edgar Guest Posted April 20, 2015 at 05:59 PM Report Share Posted April 20, 2015 at 05:59 PM If a quorum is present, and the designated time has arrived, the VP was correct in starting the meeting. The meeting can start even in the absence of a quorum though, again, I think I'd wait five minutes.
