Guest Toby Posted November 18, 2016 at 06:17 PM Report Share Posted November 18, 2016 at 06:17 PM Our club received an email from a board member indicating they have resigned from the board. A motion has been made and a second to accept the resignation. The voting to accept the resignation has failed. Does that board member remain a board member in name, even though they will no longer attend meetings, nor participate in voting? Also, while the motion was being voted on, there was a movement to rescind the resignation motion. That is not allowed while a vote is underway, correct? Thanks

Guest Toby Posted November 18, 2016 at 06:48 PM Report Share Posted November 18, 2016 at 06:48 PM The resignation was not accepted due to sympathetic votes to have the board member stay. So if the resignation is not accepted, the board member remains on board correspondence etc until their term is up or until a new motion to accept the resignation is accepted? The position the board member is resigning from is the treasurer and the club needs a treasurer. Thanks.
Hieu H. Huynh Posted November 18, 2016 at 07:05 PM Report Share Posted November 18, 2016 at 07:05 PM Yes, although I would think that you need someone who is willing to do the duties of the treasurer.

If a majority of members are willing to put sympathy above the fact that the club needs a functioning treasurer, it might be worth renewing the motion (making it again) at the next meeting and pointing out the facts in debate.
