Guest R-K Oliver Posted February 2, 2017 at 05:01 PM Report Share Posted February 2, 2017 at 05:01 PM Is an agenda required for an executive session and does the meeting agenda have to list an agenda for the executive session
Hieu H. Huynh Posted February 2, 2017 at 05:06 PM Report Share Posted February 2, 2017 at 05:06 PM RONR does not require an agenda at all. What body is this and how often do you meet?
Guest Dan Posted February 2, 2017 at 05:13 PM Report Share Posted February 2, 2017 at 05:13 PM We are a Volunteer Fire Department and we meet once a month. The new President of our company is just trying to simplify our meeting agenda and was asking about accepting the reports as we had in the past instead of submitting them for review and then voting under new business. I see that the original poster has mentioned twice in two posts this concept: ". . . and then voting under new business". I don't know where this idea came from. You won't find any such rule in Robert's Rules of Order (where you must defer any act of voting to the class of business called "new business"). -- You vote when a motion is pending. And a motion could well be pending many times well before the class of business called "new business" is reached. See "general orders". See "unfinished business". These are classes of business prior to "new business" (in the standard order of business of Robert's Rules of Order).
Gary Novosielski Posted February 3, 2017 at 01:22 AM Report Share Posted February 3, 2017 at 01:22 AM If the rules in RONR apply, you don't need an agenda at all. If you have none, the standard order of business applies, which is: Reading and Approval of Minutes Reports of Officers, Boards, and Standing Committees Reports of Special (Select or Ad Hoc) Committees Special Orders Unfinished Business and General Orders New Business Motions arising out of reports (e.g., if the report contains a recommended motion) would be handled then, not postponed until New Business. This is a bizarre idea with no support in RONR.
