Guest Karene Posted September 4, 2017 at 09:32 PM Report Share Posted September 4, 2017 at 09:32 PM Are we required to read the prior meeting's minutes at every meeting?
Bruce Lages Posted September 4, 2017 at 09:51 PM Report Share Posted September 4, 2017 at 09:51 PM Read? No, nor are you required to approve them. However, unless there is a very good reason not to, the minutes definitely should be approved at the next meeting. If copies of the draft minutes are distributed beforehand it is not necessary for the secretary to read them, although this must be done on the demand of a single member. If there is a (very) good reason why they cannot be approved at the next meeting, they should be approved as soon as possible. For a society that only holds an annual meeting, RONR strongly recommends that a committee or the board be authorized to approve those minutes. jstackpo Posted September 4, 2017 at 09:54 PM Report Share Posted September 4, 2017 at 09:54 PM (edited) No, but it is a VERY good idea to do so -- they have to be read (or printed and distributed) and approved eventually. If reading them is a major chore, chances are you are putting too much in them. See p. 468ff. for the only required contents. The minutes can be distributed prior to the meeting.
