Guest Linda A Posted September 13, 2017 at 09:18 PM Report Share Posted September 13, 2017 at 09:18 PM We are a social club with a board of about 8 and general membership of 150. Executive meetings of the board has minutes taken. The general membership meeting is usually 35 to 40 people and the same topics are covered at that meeting so we have almost duplicate minutes, double work for secretary. Is there a way to get past taking minutes of the general membership meeting?
Hieu H. Huynh Posted September 13, 2017 at 09:44 PM Report Share Posted September 13, 2017 at 09:44 PM Perhaps too much is being put in the minutes. It is mainly a record of what was done, not what was said.

No, although you could amend your bylaws to separate the two secretarial roles. Why are the two meetings covering the same business?
Guest Who's Coming to Dinner Posted September 14, 2017 at 02:06 AM Report Share Posted September 14, 2017 at 02:06 AM Perhaps because both groups are interested in the same "topics," the meetings become rambling discussions, and the whole lot is stuffed into the minutes. At least that is what I have seen in many orgs that don't stick to the rules of order.
