Guest Rae Posted November 26, 2017 at 11:52 PM Report Share Posted November 26, 2017 at 11:52 PM How to note a short 5 minute recess took place in meeting minutes?
jstackpo Posted November 27, 2017 at 12:47 AM Report Share Posted November 27, 2017 at 12:47 AM "The assembly took a 5 minute recess. Business then resumed" (I made that up on the fly - it may not be really necessary to mention such a short recess at all.)
Guest Who's Coming to Dinner Posted November 27, 2017 at 01:25 AM Report Share Posted November 27, 2017 at 01:25 AM I wouldn't bother. Mention it in passing, at most. "Following a brief recess, Mildred Jones moved that the foyer be repainted in puce."
Richard Brown Posted November 27, 2017 at 02:22 AM Report Share Posted November 27, 2017 at 02:22 AM I agree it isn't really a big deal, but according to page 230 and other pages, a motion to recess is a main motion if made when no other business is pending. Page 469 is clear that all main motions (with some exceptions) should be included in the minutes. If made while other business is pending, the motion to recess is a privileged motion. J. J. Posted November 28, 2017 at 03:42 PM Report Share Posted November 28, 2017 at 03:42 PM I think the minutes should show when the assembly goes out of session and returns to session, e.g., "The assembly recessed from ______ to ______ ," even if the recess was created by the privileged motion to Recess. This seems to be covered on p. 470, 7). I agree with Mr. Brown that a main motion to hold a recess should be recorded.
