Guest Theresa Posted December 11, 2017 at 03:57 PM Report Share Posted December 11, 2017 at 03:57 PM Once nominations for the election of officers is closed and the board proceeds to vote, is each board member allowed to make a case for their vote or why they think they are the best candidate? Or do they just vote without any comments? We typically do a roll call vote. This is for a school board organizational meeting.
George Mervosh Posted December 11, 2017 at 04:02 PM Report Share Posted December 11, 2017 at 04:02 PM The time to debate the nominees is while nominations are open and in order. No member may speak about their vote while the actual vote is being conducted.
Guest Theresa Posted December 14, 2017 at 08:10 PM Report Share Posted December 14, 2017 at 08:10 PM Thank you. If we have 2 nominations, are we able to do a roll call vote where each board member announces which candidate they choose?

The attorney will know which voting method must be used. Edited December 14, 2017 at 08:24 PM by George Mervosh

However, the assembly may, by motion (or unanimous consent), decide to permit "campaign speeches" and/or discussion of the candidates at any time prior to voting. Many organizations have a rule providing for this or do it by custom.
