Cuibono Posted December 29, 2018 at 03:53 AM Report Share Posted December 29, 2018 at 03:53 AM I was wondering about our upcoming annual plenary session. This is a national organization that was incorporated in NY. And the annual convention will be in the south this year. 1- If the Chair must step away (for less than 15 minutes) and the Vice-Chair is not available, who may step in to preside over the meeting? 2- what is the proper parlance the Chair should use to get someone else to take over? Chris Harrison Posted December 29, 2018 at 04:39 AM Report Share Posted December 29, 2018 at 04:39 AM Subject to the assembly's approval the Chair can appoint a Chair Pro Tem (RONR p. 395 and pp. 452-453).

Richard Brown Posted December 30, 2018 at 07:36 PM Report Share Posted December 30, 2018 at 07:36 PM (edited) Agreeing with Chris Harrison, that approval is usually granted by unanimous consent. The chair would say something like, "I must step away for a few minutes. if there is no objection, I am appointing Jack Smith to serve as chair Pro Tem until either the vice chairman or I return".
