Guest Sue Barnes Posted May 11, 2021 at 02:12 AM Report Share Posted May 11, 2021 at 02:12 AM A recent board had a motion and a second to donate to a local church. before the vote was taken a board member made a motion to amend the motion to say donation to be used in youth programs. The board voted to approve the amendment and then went back and approve the original motion. Is this the correct way to handle this amendment. Alicia Percell, PRP Posted May 11, 2021 at 05:09 AM Report Share Posted May 11, 2021 at 05:09 AM It sounds like it was done correctly. Think of the first vote as being whether or not the original motion would be better with the amendment or without it. If the amendment was approved in the first vote, then the second vote is on the original motion now WITH the amendment incorporated into it. If the amendment was not approved in the first vote, the second vote is on the original motion WITHOUT the amendment incorporated into it. It sounds correct, but I think we may be able to make our answers more tailored to the question if we ask you a question - why does this question arise? What are the concerns leading you here? Assuming that you mean they went back and approved the original motion as amended, then yes.
