Can you recommend which organization is best for an old fart to get certified? I don't intend to serve in that capacity but would simply like to achieve my credibility to advise. Thanks in advance. If choosing one, I recommend the American Institute of Parliamentarians. The other one is the National Association of Parliamentarians. It is larger. I am a member of and am credentialed by both. Richard Brown Posted December 16, 2022 at 01:15 AM Report Share Posted December 16, 2022 at 01:15 AM Agreeing with Dr. Kapur regarding there being two nationally recognized major national organizations for parliamentarians, you might check them both out through their websites and talk to parliamentarians who are members of both organizations. NAP is definitely much larger, with three or four times as many members as AIP, but they both offer very good training. NAP requires new members to pass a very basic test on parliamentary procedure prior to joining, AIP does not. NAP has an online "bookstore" with a large selection of books and pamphlets on parliamentary procedure, AIP does not offer as many "basic" materials but has outstanding advanced materials. NAP has an state association in every (or almost every) state and has several local "units" in most states. AIP does not. If you live in or near a city with an NAP local unit, you might find joining such a unit where you can meet with, socialize with and learn from other parliamentarians to be very beneficial. Most NAP local units have an educational program as part of every meeting. Most meet monthly. The NAP website is: www.parliamentarians.org. The AIP website is: www.aipparl.org. Yes, and both have other excellent in-person and virtual training opportunities. For NAP, there are the conventions, training conference , and district conferences.
