puzzling Posted May 26, 2023 at 05:17 PM Report Share Posted May 26, 2023 at 05:17 PM I am puzzling with the following: Suppose the following has happend: A main motion was moved and seconded During debate an amendment was made. Mr A voted in favour and the amendment was adopted (many members abstained) Later a vote was taken on the amended main motion. Mr A votes in favour but the motion was not adopted. Later in the same meeting mr a moved to reconcider the amendement. If this reconcideration was adopted what is the result?
Dan Honemann Posted May 26, 2023 at 05:28 PM Report Share Posted May 26, 2023 at 05:28 PM Have you looked at 37:30 in the 12th ed. of RONR?
Rob Elsman Posted May 26, 2023 at 06:39 PM Report Share Posted May 26, 2023 at 06:39 PM Based on the facts provided, Mr. A appears qualified to make the motion to reconsider both the main motion and the subsidiary motion, Amend, since he voted with the prevailing side on the first motion to be reconsidered, Amend. After the motion to reconsider the subsidiary motion, Amend, has been adopted, it is in exactly the same position it was in right before the vote on it was originally taken. a) If the subsidiary motion, Amend, is adopted upon reconsideration, the main motion, as amended, will become the immediately pending motion. b) On the other hand, if the subsidiary motion, Amend, is rejected upon reconsideration, the main motion, as unamended, will become the immediately pending motion. Shmuel Gerber Posted May 28, 2023 at 03:03 AM Report Share Posted May 28, 2023 at 03:03 AM On 5/26/2023 at 2:39 PM, Rob Elsman said: Based on the facts provided, Mr. A appears qualified to make the motion to reconsider both the main motion and the subsidiary motion, Amend, since he voted with the prevailing side on the first motion to be reconsidered, Amend. This second paragraph is confusing because, as you say in the first paragraph, there should not be a motion to reconsider the vote on the motion to Amend, but rather a motion to reconsider the votes on both the main motion and the amendment.
