Guest SSCIB Posted February 10, 2024 at 04:15 AM Report Share Posted February 10, 2024 at 04:15 AM Is a 2/3 vote needed for a motion to rename the organization. Or would that just be a majority vote?

Presuming, as is usually the case, that the name of the organization is specified in the bylaws, then the requirement will be the same as for any other bylaws amendment, which is usually a two-thirds vote and previous notice, but your bylaws may vary. Or would that just be a majority vote? Generally, an organization's name will be found in its governing documents, such as the bylaws. As a consequence, changing the name will have the same requirements as any other amendment to the bylaws. The bylaws should specify how they are to be amended, so you will have to check your bylaws to say for sure. A 2/3 vote with previous notice is fairly typical. If the organization is incorporated, it may well also be necessary to amend the articles of incorporation. So you should check what that document requires for its amendment as well.
