Guest Committee702 Posted February 12, 2024 at 06:17 PM Report Share Posted February 12, 2024 at 06:17 PM Our Bylaws state "Each board member shall serve a one-year term and no more than two consecutive years in the same position. A board member may serve in a previously held position after taking a year off." The questions is, if a member wants to be in the same position for two consecutive years, do they still need to be voted in for that second year or can they automatically serve two years? Our bylaws don't present an answer. Thoughts?
Rob Elsman Posted February 12, 2024 at 06:21 PM Report Share Posted February 12, 2024 at 06:21 PM The correct answer conforms to what the adopting assembly intended to mean when the bylaw was adopted.

Michael Seebeck Posted February 14, 2024 at 08:59 PM Report Share Posted February 14, 2024 at 08:59 PM Yes, they do need to be elected again. This is a variation on the Grover Cleveland case (Cleveland, to date, is the only person elected President twice but in non-consecutive terms.) But, that Bylaw should be amended to far better wording, such as what is explained in RONR 56:27-30.
