Guest alohana@blisllc.com Posted February 20, 2024 at 09:58 PM Report Share Posted February 20, 2024 at 09:58 PM The board approved a budget with a line item for $10,000 on a category Does there need to be a motion to spend that $10,000 or can the committee to which it applies to proceed with action that will cost up to $10,000 to reach their needed end result? Rob Elsman Posted February 20, 2024 at 10:10 PM Report Share Posted February 20, 2024 at 10:10 PM The correct answer depends on whether adoption of the budget carries with it an authorization for expenditures. In some organization it does; in other organizations, it does not.
Gary Novosielski Posted February 21, 2024 at 02:52 AM Report Share Posted February 21, 2024 at 02:52 AM It also depends on how the committee has been charged. In the default case, committees have no power to act independently, and only make recommendations to their parent body. In that case, the allocation of $10,000 to a committee would merely instruct them on the upper limit which the total cost of those recommendations may not exceed. Or perhaps the target amount which they are instructed to treat as a goal. It depends.
