Rob Elsman Posted June 10, 2024 at 08:58 PM Report Share Posted June 10, 2024 at 08:58 PM Nothing in RONR (12th ed.) authorizes the president to do anything beyond performing his duties as presiding officer in the context of a meeting. Whether he has other duties outside the context of a meeting is not a matter for parliamentary law.
Richard Brown Posted June 10, 2024 at 11:23 PM Report Share Posted June 10, 2024 at 11:23 PM Agreeing with Mr. Elsman, RONR is clear that an officer such as the president may have other administrative duties in addition to that of presiding over meetings of the society. It is completely within the sound discretion of the society as to what those administrative duties (such as signing checks) might be and how the president should exercise them. Those duties generally have nothing to do with parliamentary and are outside the purview of RONR. RONR (12th ed.) 47:

So unless your bylaws give the president this power, it does not appear to be a thing.
