David A Foulkes Posted July 5, 2010 at 09:39 PM Report Share Posted July 5, 2010 at 09:39 PM can a person that is under 18 years of age a full member vote on church topics and issuesI have seen in some instances where such membership classification as "Junior" members (particularly for those under 18) is included, and typically not as a voting member. I've also seen cases where members are denied to the right to vote unless they have been members for at least three months. Your bylaws should detail what makes a member a member, with full rights thereof. In RONR-land, a member is a member is a member from the moment they are accepted into the society. Your rules may vary, of course.
George Mervosh Posted July 5, 2010 at 09:42 PM Report Share Posted July 5, 2010 at 09:42 PM So unless you want a bunch of exuberant 15 year olds voting for an all-expense paid trip to Disney World, consider amending those bylaws........oh, and all the exuberant 15 year olds get to vote on the proposed bylaw change. Robert B Fish Posted July 5, 2010 at 10:59 PM Report Share Posted July 5, 2010 at 10:59 PM If they are members, YES. Why would you think it's otherwise? While it's possible some applicable statutes would lead you to a different answer in some circumstances, that analysis should come from attorney and this forum cannot help you there.-Bob

And those who don't look like you. Or act appropriately.
Shmuel Gerber Posted July 6, 2010 at 11:19 PM Report Share Posted July 6, 2010 at 11:19 PM And don't forget to take the right to vote away from the old codgers over 55 or else nothing will ever get approved that involves spending money. That's not the way it works, because only those under 15 would imagine that they'll never themselves become an old codger over 55, so they're the only ones who would vote for such a rule change.
