Guest Fred Posted February 23, 2011 at 05:44 PM Report Share Posted February 23, 2011 at 05:44 PM We had a ballet vote for Vice President and it was a tie. The President voted since it was a ballet vote. How do you resolve a tie?

How do you resolve a tie?Keep voting until the tie is broken.......if it keeps up, consider reopening nomination if possible and perhaps a compromise candidate will emgerge. Gary Novosielski Posted February 23, 2011 at 05:58 PM Report Share Posted February 23, 2011 at 05:58 PM We had a ballet vote for Vice President and it was a tie. The President voted since it was a ballet vote. How do you resolve a tie?You have a second ballot, third ballot, fourth...well, you get the idea. Note that this is not a run-off. No candidates get dropped unless they withdraw. You vote until someone gets a majority of the ballots cast. That means not only more votes than any other candidate, but more votes than all the other candidates (for that office, combined).

Rev Ed Posted February 23, 2011 at 08:41 PM Report Share Posted February 23, 2011 at 08:41 PM A tie vote means that the motion (in this case the election) is defeated. In the case of an election another round of balloting take place until someone who is elected by a majority vote unless the organization's by-laws state otherwise.
