doyle911 Posted June 25, 2012 at 08:14 PM Report Share Posted June 25, 2012 at 08:14 PM If the president of the Board resigns as president, is he/she then eligibile to assume title as Chairman? Or does the President have to serve out his term before he can qualify as Chairman?
Chris Harrison Posted June 25, 2012 at 08:20 PM Report Share Posted June 25, 2012 at 08:20 PM If President and Chairman are two different offices in your organization you will need to look to the bylaws to determine if resigning as President disqualifies him from serving as Chairman. Or does the President have to serve out his term before he can qualify as Chairman? As far as RONR is concerned, he can serve in either or both or none of those offices, sequentially or at the same time. Why would you think he couldn't?

Or does the President have to serve out his term before he can qualify as Chairman?RONR does not hold the answer to these questions. Your bylaws or any higher rules might, though. doyle911 Posted June 26, 2012 at 09:48 PM Author Report Share Posted June 26, 2012 at 09:48 PM We are a non-profit Chamber of Commerce. After the President serves his/her term, they automatically become Chair. However, our current Chair is not ready to resign his title. The bylaws do not address the issue. The idea of a President resigning resulting in a Chairperson getting booted, doesn't seem fair. If the President wants to become Chair he should serve his term. ... I think?
