Reconsider?

Reconsideration MIGHT be one way to do it.  But, reconsider is subject to time limits.  In a convention lasting more than one day, the motion to reconsider must be moved either on the same day the original motion was adopted or on the next succeeding day.  RONR, page 316.

You can also amend the budget by the use of the motion "amend something previously adopted".  That motion requires a majority vote if previous notice is given or a two thirds vote or the vote of a majority of the entire membership without notice.  Since this is presumably a convention of delegates, a majority of the delegates registered at the convention would satisfy the "majority of the entire membership" requirement, per page 404, lines 4 - 8.

You would amend the budget using a motion to amend something previously adopted. Given your situation, it would require a 2/3 vote. Reconsider is not an option because it is not on the same day as the original motion.

Since this is a convention, couldn't a motion to reconsider be moved either on the same day or on the next succeeding day, assuming it is a convention lasting more than one day?   btw, I agree that if the convention is over, reconsideration is not an option.

Also, wouldn't a vote of a majority of the delegates registered at the convention be a permissible alternative to a two-thirds vote, per page 404 of RONR?

Yes, but we need more facts.  He said the motion was adopted on day 1.  He did not say today was day 2.

Agreed.  Thus the references in both of my posts to "on the same day or the next succeeding day".

Oh I know YOU knew that.....just making sure Mr. McFarland is clear.  :)   And yes, a majority of the entire membership could adopt a motion to amend (if that's the motion to be used here), and if notice was given in the previous meeting, a majority vote would do as well.

You are correct, but I assumed that since today is Thursday an it isn't day one, the convention probably started on Monday or Tuesday, making this day three or four.

B. The making of this motion is subject to time limits, as follows:
In a session of one day ― such as an ordinary meeting of a club or a one-day convention―the motion to Reconsider can be made only on the same day the vote to be reconsidered was taken.
In a convention or session of more than one day, a reconsideration can be moved only on the same day the original vote was taken or on the next succeeding day within the session on which a business meeting is held.

[RONR, p. 316, the motion Reconsider]
