Edgar Guest Posted April 13, 2015 at 11:21 PM Report Share Posted April 13, 2015 at 11:21 PM Can we change the time by giving notice of the meeting? You'll need to amend the rule that established the ten o'clock meeting time. And you'll need to do that at a meeting.
Guest Janet Posted April 14, 2015 at 01:08 AM Report Share Posted April 14, 2015 at 01:08 AM There is another wrinkle. Our business meeting starts at 10 and the members come as early as 9:15 for coffee and visiting in the meeting room. We hope to start the voting at 9 (or 9:15). And have the business meeting start in one part of the very large meeting room and still have voting take place in a large area far corner of the room. Voting will continue until all who want to have voted. Can we send an election notice that voting will start at 9 and the meeting at 10?

That is a relatively common provision, but, without it, you are stuck with the 10 am meeting time. For now, at least.
Guest Janet Posted April 14, 2015 at 03:22 AM Report Share Posted April 14, 2015 at 03:22 AM Yes, our bylaws allow the Board to change the meeting time as it determines. We need to send out a notice of election three days before our board meeting under state law, if it applies. . The election/ meeting follows the Board meeting by 7 days. Does the Board need to meet in special session now? We don't have email voting in our bylaws.

Gary Novosielski Posted April 14, 2015 at 12:27 PM Report Share Posted April 14, 2015 at 12:27 PM The takeaway here is that decisions are made at meetings.
