Guest Theresa Posted December 6, 2017 at 08:19 PM Report Share Posted December 6, 2017 at 08:19 PM During nominations and elections at an annual organizational meeting, is a motion and second needed before voting for the officers? From the reading I've done, it isn't, but I've looked at minutes from other organizations and there is a motion and second.
George Mervosh Posted December 6, 2017 at 08:37 PM Report Share Posted December 6, 2017 at 08:37 PM No motion is needed. Once nominations conclude you can proceed straight to the election.
Bruce Lages Posted December 6, 2017 at 08:37 PM Report Share Posted December 6, 2017 at 08:37 PM When nominations and elections are done at the same meeting, there is no motion needed before the election process begins. It is possible to have a motion to close nominations, but this is usually not necessary, as the chair can declare nominations closed when there are no more nominations offered. (Additionally, a motion to close nominations is not in order if anyone is attempting to make a nomination.)
Richard Brown Posted December 6, 2017 at 08:38 PM Report Share Posted December 6, 2017 at 08:38 PM No, a motion and second are not needed in order to vote for the officers if it is something that the bylaws specify is to be done at a particular meeting.
