Guest Brad Posted February 5, 2019 at 03:57 PM Report Share Posted February 5, 2019 at 03:57 PM A motion was made, seconded, and passed by vote. Can someone submit a new motion afterward that would contradict the just-taken vote?

Bruce Lages Posted February 5, 2019 at 08:45 PM Report Share Posted February 5, 2019 at 08:45 PM Most likely not, unless it's a motion to rescind or amend the previously adopted motion, or a motion to reconsider the passed motion, which has a number of restrictions on it (see p. 315ff in RONR). But more facts would be helpful.

Can someone submit a new motion afterward that would contradict the just-taken vote? In general, no. They could move to Rescind the motion just passed, but that would have a higher threshold than the original and seems unlikely to succeed unless sentiments had changed substantially in the last five minutes. But it's not in order to make a motion that conflicts with a motion already passed and still in effect. Exceptions may apply.
Richard Brown Posted February 6, 2019 at 03:54 AM Report Share Posted February 6, 2019 at 03:54 AM Guest Brad, as is evident from the responses posted thus far, more information is needed as to what you mean by your question, " Can someone submit a new motion afterward that would contradict the just-taken vote? " If you can explain what you mean, perhaps we can be of more help.
