Appointment of Standing Committee Chair

Bylaws authorize the president to appoint the Education Committee Chairman.  Education is a standing committee.  At a regular meeting, the president announced her choice of Education Chairman and then asked the assembly to vote on this appointment.  Since the bylaws authorize the president to appoint this chairman, is this appointment influenced in any way by the assembly's vote?

Nope. If the bylaws authorize the President to appoint this chairman, and say nothing about the assembly needing to approve such an appointment, any vote on this matter by the assembly is advisory in nature.

If that's all it says, I agree with Mr. Martin that the vote was advisory.

Advisory, and arguably inadvisable.

All that is necessary is for the president to announce such appointments, typically during the time for reports of officers.
