Caryn Ann Harlos Posted April 27, 2021 at 09:46 AM Report Share Posted April 27, 2021 at 09:46 AM I had thought that it was different from bylaws which go into effect immediately but rather constitution amendments go into effect upon adjournment sine die but now I cannot find any answer to this question (the organization is operating under the 11th). Can you help a sister out here?
Hieu H. Huynh Posted April 27, 2021 at 10:17 AM Report Share Posted April 27, 2021 at 10:17 AM The term "bylaws" in RONR also refers to the constitution, so there would be no difference in this regard.

Richard Brown Posted April 27, 2021 at 01:01 PM Report Share Posted April 27, 2021 at 01:01 PM Mr. Huynh is correct. RONR treats bylaws and a constitution the same, although if an organization has both, the constitution is deemed the superior document. Amendments to both documents go into effect immediately upon adoption unless the document itself or a proviso provides otherwise. I will try to find the reference in RONR which says they are treated the same way.
Richard Brown Posted April 27, 2021 at 01:10 PM Report Share Posted April 27, 2021 at 01:10 PM (edited) See RONR (12th Ed) 2:8 - 2:13 re a constitution and bylaws. See also 57:15 - 57:17 re when amendments take effect. Edited April 27, 2021 at 01:28 PM by Richard Brown Added additional citation
