Mike Phillips Posted March 28, 2022 at 01:07 AM Report Share Posted March 28, 2022 at 01:07 AM Assuming that the organization's by-laws do not require it, does the name of the person seconding a motion have to be recorded? I've seen indications in RONR 12th suggesting yes and no. I don't think it's required. The body is 30 plus people.
J. J. Posted March 28, 2022 at 01:11 AM Report Share Posted March 28, 2022 at 01:11 AM No, unless ordered by the assembly (48:5, #1).

But the answer is no, unless you have some custom rule. The thing is, since seconding does not require being recognized, in a large group it might be hard to establish who seconded a given motion. That is exactly the problem. The Secretary holds up progress to get the name of the person making the second. She never knew better. She will soon. In fact, there may be a whole bunch of members who holler "Second!" at about the same time. 🙂
