Guest David Adams Posted February 8, 2012 at 01:18 PM Report Share Posted February 8, 2012 at 01:18 PM Our constitution states that the president can appoint a ethics committee. The constitution does not specify that any approval need be made. Question: Must the Executive Board approve all members to the ethics committee ?Thank you
George Mervosh Posted February 8, 2012 at 01:44 PM Report Share Posted February 8, 2012 at 01:44 PM If the rule in question doesn't say further approval is needed, then none is. RONR doesn't require further approval and defers to the governing documents in something like this anyway. If the rule is problematic, move to amend the constitution to your liking. jstackpo Posted February 8, 2012 at 02:09 PM Report Share Posted February 8, 2012 at 02:09 PM And while you are amending, here is something else to think about: suppose the ethics violation (oh, alright, alleged violation) involves the president? Rev Ed Posted February 8, 2012 at 05:14 PM Report Share Posted February 8, 2012 at 05:14 PM Do the By-laws state anything else about Committees and how they are appointed/formed?
Gary Novosielski Posted February 8, 2012 at 06:24 PM Report Share Posted February 8, 2012 at 06:24 PM Something else to think about: in parliamentary terms "appointing" a committee means naming the people who are to serve on the committee. The power to appoint committees (even "all committees") does not imply the power to create (establish) new committees.
