Guest donald weand Posted March 19, 2015 at 09:25 PM Report Share Posted March 19, 2015 at 09:25 PM Non profit by-laws were recently revised, voted on and approved by the membership. In the old by-laws a 2/3 majority was required to elected a 'LIFE MEMBER" to the non profit. In the revised by-laws the percentage of affirmative votes to elect a life member was omitted.Does the election of a life member pass by simple majority or by 2/3 majority? Edgar Guest Posted March 19, 2015 at 09:40 PM Report Share Posted March 19, 2015 at 09:40 PM Most "ordinary" motions require only a majority vote. The proper interpretation of bylaws requires reading them in their entirety, something that's beyond the scope of this forum. Of course you could always amend your bylaws to restore the two-thirds vote requirement. And I'm not sure I'd use the word "elect" when granting Life Member status. If not, you can't have them.

Please drop the word "majority" after "2/3". My ears started bleeding when I was out walking the dog. Now I know why.
