Guest Joy Posted April 9, 2015 at 06:23 PM Report Share Posted April 9, 2015 at 06:23 PM We are adding a sargeant at arms to our board. We are going to amend our bylaws to ad this position. Since it is mid year can the president appoint this position or does an election need to be held?
Bruce Lages Posted April 9, 2015 at 06:32 PM Report Share Posted April 9, 2015 at 06:32 PM When you amend the bylaws to add this position, be sure to include the method you all want for selecting a person to fill the position, be it by election, appointment, or whatever. If you don't include this (which would be a really bad idea) I guess the default process would be whatever method is used to select other officers, most likely election by the general membership. I don't know what the fact that it is mid-year has to do with this - there is certainly no vacancy since this is a new position.
Hieu H. Huynh Posted April 9, 2015 at 06:52 PM Report Share Posted April 9, 2015 at 06:52 PM Also, this position does not exist on your board until the bylaws have been amended to include it.
Edgar Guest Posted April 9, 2015 at 07:03 PM Report Share Posted April 9, 2015 at 07:03 PM We are adding a sargeant at arms to our board. Well, it's sergeant-at-arms and one has to wonder why you think your board needs this officer.
