CatsterB Posted February 27, 2017 at 08:35 PM Report Share Posted February 27, 2017 at 08:35 PM We have a board member who is constantly slandering and demeaning another board member he disagrees with in emails. Are there rules in RONR that cover conduct amoug boards and recourse on how to handle besides asking the presiding officer to censure. George Mervosh Posted February 27, 2017 at 08:38 PM Report Share Posted February 27, 2017 at 08:38 PM Is the conduct you mention occurring in a meeting, or just in emails?
CatsterB Posted February 27, 2017 at 09:15 PM Author Report Share Posted February 27, 2017 at 09:15 PM In emails mostly - but also with interupting that member when they are speaking, with rude remarks in spec meetings in/by conference calls. Hieu H. Huynh Posted February 27, 2017 at 09:19 PM Report Share Posted February 27, 2017 at 09:19 PM See "Breaches of order by members in a meeting" in RONR 11th ed., starting on p. 645.
George Mervosh Posted February 27, 2017 at 09:20 PM Report Share Posted February 27, 2017 at 09:20 PM (edited) For what occurs in meetings, see RONR (11th ed.), pp. 645-648. For what occurs outside of a meeting setting, or if the procedures in the previously cited pages don't get the job done, all the board can do is refer the matter to the general membership, as a board cannot punish its members under the rules in RONR. See RONR (11th ed.), p. 486. Edited February 27, 2017 at 09:21 PM by George Mervosh
Rev Ed Posted February 28, 2017 at 03:11 AM Report Share Posted February 28, 2017 at 03:11 AM The Board should read the By-laws for any disciplinary actions it may be allowed to do. Otherwise, read Chapter XX of RONR to deal with disciplining the Board member if the Board feels this is appropriate.
